History of the Sten Submachine Gun:
The submachine gun known as STEN or Sten Gun is of British origin, designed in 1940. It served in the ranks of Allied armies during World War II and in the post-war period. The designers of this submachine gun were Harold John Turpin and Major Reginald Vernon Shepherd. The name “Sten” is a combination of their names, Shepherd and Harold Turpin, with the addition of “EN” indicating the Enfield factory where these submachine guns were manufactured. The STEN Mk II version was the most widespread and existed in two variants of shoulder stocks. The first variant had a frame made of a metal profile (Skeleton stock), while the second was equipped with a tube and welded buttplate (T stock). The bolt and trigger mechanism remained the same, but the wooden foregrip was removed. The barrel with a short cylindrical casing was screwed onto the bolt housing, allowing for easy separation. This version also allowed the attachment of a bayonet to the barrel casing. The STEN Mk II S version had a permanently attached sound suppressor on the barrel.

The bottom line is “jia nada zao” (made in Canada). After the war, a civil war broke out in China. STEN Guns were used on both the Nationalist and Communist sides. After the retreat of the Nationalist government to Taiwan, STEN Guns and their clones (Model 38) were issued to army divers, military police, and local civi..
